Is there a difference betweenBlending Dog Grooming Scissors and Texturising Dog Grooming Scissors?
A frequently asked question is 'What is the difference between a blending dog grooming scissor and a texturising dog grooming scissor?"
The terms used for these two types of dog grooming scissors can be confused and/or can be used incorrectly. To understand the difference between a blending scissors and a texturising scissor, it is important to discuss each shear type and the finish they will help to create to a dog's coat.
What is a blending dog grooming scissor?
A 'blending' scissor is designed to make a seamless transition between two or more coat lengths and help to create much softer 'blended' finishes.
A blending dog grooming scissor is typically 7" and longer with typically between 40-60 teeth. The teeth and the gap between each tooth are smaller compared to a texturising scissor and the individual tooth of a blender, has additional micro serrated edges. This feature allows the teeth too 'grab' and hold the coat in place as the cutting edge of the opposing blade cuts through the coat. It helps the dog groomer to create much softer and smoother finishes.

What is a texturising dog grooming scissor?
Texturising dog grooming shears are just as their name suggests, they are designed to give a soft, natural textured finish on a correct dog coat type. The length of a texturising scissor will vary between 7" to 9" in length and the number of teeth will range from 18 to 30.
A texturising dog grooming scissor has much wider teeth and wider gaps between each tooth compared to a blending scissor. This feature allows the dog groomer to create a more natural and textured finish to the coat. This type of finish is different to the sharp tailored finished achieved with a straight or curved dog grooming scissor.

Is there a difference between a Chunker and a texturising dog grooming scissor?
It is important to note that the term 'Chunker' can be misused by dog groomers and as a result there can be some confusion on the two different types of dog grooming scissors.
The Chunker
Traditionally, the Chunker typically is between 5" and 6.5" in length and will have between 10 and 15 large teeth. This dog grooming scissor will also have a wider gap between each tooth. These scissors are designed to create a chunky or choppy appearance. For example, on a West Highland White or Cairn Terrier head, used with extreme caution, will add a natural chunky finish. It does go without saying at this point, that preparation is as important as the scissor.
The Texturising Dog Grooming Scissor.
Texturising shears are just as their name suggests. These shears are designed to give a soft, creamy textured finish on a correctly prepared coat. The length of a texturising scissor will vary between 7" to 9" in length and the number of teeth will range from 18 to 30.
A texturising dog grooming scissor is a more versatile scissor compared to a chunker, as they are able to add a finish to the coat and can help remove any unwanted bulk. These dog grooming scissors leave a soft, textured finish to a coat. This finish is different to the sharp tailored finished achieved with a straight blade dog grooming scissor.
